Ohio Parent Guide to Autism Spectrum Disorders

It was developed by the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence in conjunction with the Autism Society of Ohio and Ohio parents of individuals with ASD who have a broad range of experience with interventions, resources, and services. The group’s work began with the question: What do you wish you had known the first year your child was diagnosed?
 

Service Guidelines for Individuals with ASD - Birth through 21

These guidelines offer basic concepts in providing supports for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Pervasive Developmental Disorder (ASD/PDD). The information and recommended strategies and modifications were compiled by committees and agreed upon by the “Task Force to Develop Guidelines for Educating Individuals with ASD/PDD Ages Birth to 21”, which included representatives of the Autism Society of Ohio. The guidelines are intended to serve as a tool that can be used to help families, educators, medical professionals, care providers and other service providers make informed decisions about children and young adults with ASD/PDD.

 

Transition Guidelines/Webcasts

transitioinimage2OCALI has developed a comprehensive product that provides guidance and resources for parents and professionals during the process of transition to adulthood for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The resulting document developed with their support, Transition to Adulthood Guidelines for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, aligns with the requirements of IDEIA 2004 and reflects best practices in transition planning for individuals with ASD.   The document includes sections on Legal Issues and IEP Requirements Related to Transition, Age-Appropriate Transition Assessment, School Age Programming, Employment, Postsecondary Education, Community Participation, and Supported Living.

odjfslogo  Increasing access to health care coverage for working Ohioans with disabilities:  This is an Ohio Medicaid program that was created to give  Ohioans with disabilities the opportunity to work and keep their health coverage.  Historically, people with disabilities were often discouraged from working becasue their earnings made them ineligiible for Medicaid coverage.
